In 2000 I obtained my medical degree from the VU (Free University Amsterdam). During my further training as a specialist in elderly care medicine in het Gooi, I came into contact with the ‘Gooise Academie’ through the daughter of a patient. I had lessons there for 8 years with Ursula de Boer. We mainly painted still lifes, models and portraits from life in acrylic paint. When she retired in 2011, I switched to Cas Waterman from Academie Renshof in Amsterdam, whose article I had read in the art magazine Palet a year earlier. From Cas I learned to paint oil paint in the traditional painting technique. Mastering this technique has given me a lot of freedom to make what I want.
